Trusted by STEP Scotland and Business Gateway for over a decade
Some working relationships define a consultancy. This is one of mine.
For over ten years, I’ve worked as a trusted marketing partner for STEP Scotland in Stirling — the organisation that delivers the Business Gateway service locally and administers Expert Help in Falkirk. In that time, I’ve delivered more than 150 Expert Help projects, supporting businesses at every stage from start-ups finding their feet to long-established companies looking to sharpen their marketing and grow with more confidence.
Alongside the consultancy work, I’ve also supported STEP and Business Gateway in how they communicate the impact of their own programmes — through workshops, video content and storytelling that captures real business stories from across Central Scotland.
It’s a partnership built on trust, consistency and a shared belief that good businesses deserve marketing that does them justice.
Where businesses typically start
Across more than 150 projects, a consistent pattern emerges.
Businesses are doing genuinely good work, but not presenting it clearly or strongly enough. Their offer isn’t always easy to understand. Their messaging doesn’t reflect the quality of what they deliver. Their marketing doesn’t connect with the right audience as it should.
That’s always where the work starts — making sure the business is properly represented before anything else.
How the support works
Each Expert Help project is delivered over a focused three-day programme — giving business owners the space to step back and look properly at what they’re doing and how they’re communicating it.
The focus is on three things: what the business actually offers, who it’s trying to reach, and how to communicate that clearly and compellingly.
From there, the work is about sharpening the message and putting a practical marketing strategy in place — something structured, realistic, and actionable that the business can follow without hiring anyone.
What was delivered
The work has centred on building clear, practical marketing strategies — refining positioning, improving how services are communicated, strengthening websites and digital content, and helping businesses focus their efforts on the channels most likely to bring in the right enquiries.
Each project is different. But the outcome is consistent — clearer direction, stronger messaging, and a marketing approach that properly reflects the quality of the business.

Workshops, content and storytelling
Alongside the consultancy work, I’ve supported STEP and Business Gateway in communicating the impact of their programmes through workshops, filming business events, and producing video content that captures authentic business stories.
That includes a 40-film series produced to mark STEP Scotland’s 40th anniversary — each film capturing a different chapter of the organisation’s journey and the businesses it has supported — as well as testimonial-led video content for Business Gateway Falkirk highlighting the real impact of their support on local businesses.
The focus throughout is authenticity. Real businesses, real stories, told in a way that resonates with the people who need to hear them.
The impact
Businesses come away from Expert Help with a clear sense of direction, stronger messaging, and a marketing approach that is much more focused and effective than when they started.
They understand how to present what they do, connect with the right audience, and move their marketing forward with confidence — without the cost or complexity of hiring a marketing team.
For STEP and Business Gateway, the partnership also means clearly demonstrating the impact of their programmes — through both the outcomes of the consultancy work and the content that brings those stories to life.
It’s what a long-term trusted partnership looks like in practice.
What this means for your business
If your marketing feels unclear, reactive, or simply doesn't do justice to the quality of your work, this kind of structured support provides a clear, practical starting point.
It doesn’t matter whether you’re a start-up or an established business. The approach is the same — understand the business properly first, then put the right things in place.
