Marketing of The Trossachs Trail
I am pleased to have worked on revitalising Scotland's first geographic trail - The Trossachs Trail.
Initially set up in the 1990s, The Trossachs Trail is a 40-mile route connecting Aberfoyle, Blair Drummond, Callander and Doune. Highlights along the trail include Loch Katrine, home of Steamship Sir Walter Scott, Doune Castle, Go Ape Aberfoyle, Ben A'an, which is one of Scotland's most popular hill walks, Blair Drummond Safari Park, as well as pretty villages, lochs, glens, hills, mountains and forests.
The project led by two charities, Friends of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs and Steamship Sir Walter Scott Trust, with support of grants and local communities, delivered updated road signage, a new website, map, guide and leaflet.
Trossachs Trail Map & Guide
The project's theme was Active Travel, and through all the outputs, we encouraged visitors to explore the Trossachs by boot, bike and boat. Visitors received practical recommendations for combining walking, cycling and boat trips.
As well as digital promotion through the new website, we created a detailed map and guide, with large versions installed at strategic points along the trail. A leaflet/map was produced, especially useful at the Visitor Information Centres at Doune, Callander and Aberfoyle.
The Trossachs Trail project has helped to bring together accommodation providers, visitor attractions, shops and cafes. There is strong support for the Trossachs Trail in the communities, as it promotes responsible tourism. The work has also raised the profile of the Trossachs, which is considered the birthplace of Scottish tourism, nationally and forged stronger links with VisitScotland.
The project was boosted through a PR campaign. It was a pleasure creating this content and promotion with the charities and communities throughout the Trossachs and to see the positive impact it has had with visitors.
