Your digital assets
This article is a plea for you to ensure you have control of your digital assets. If you don't, it's like owning a shop but not having the keys to unlock the doors.
Here is a list of assets that you should have easy access to:
1) All versions of your company logo (including versions for print)
2) Your website domain (e.g. paulsaundersmarketing.co.uk)
3) Your website, which should be in your ownership, with the option to update without asking anyone else
4) Google account (for YouTube, Google Analytics, Google Console)
5) Google My Business
6) All social media accounts (even ones dormant)
In summary, you need to own and control all the online branded sites for your business.
If you have access to them (great news!), take the next step and get two-factor security for log-ins. Be careful who has permission for social media and website log-in. Staff should be users rather than administrators, removed once they leave the business (amicably or otherwise.)
If you're wondering where all this is coming from, it's because it's quite a widespread issue. Unfortunately, I've seen the vast problems this provides on too many occasions.
We have a golden rule of not creating accounts for our clients with our log-ins; if we lose touch for whatever reason, that shouldn't then make an access problem for our clients. Therefore ensure that all accounts opened are in the name (and email address) of the business owner, not a staff member or supplier.
